Date | Original Topic | 14th October 2002 | "Zulu War Experience" weekend, Cliffe, Kent. By John Young I just want to put on record that I was honoured to have had the chance to have taken part in the past weekend's activities.
Never before, to my knowledge, have the direct descendants of the Zulu commanders of both the actions at Isandlwana & Rorke's Drift been present at such an event in the U.K.
To Bob & Margaret Driver - for organising the event, well done!
To Tim Benger - thanks for the excellent fare!
To "The Die-Hards" for representing, by way of their living-history display, the 24th, 57th, A.H.C. & H.M.S. Shah - for yet another excellent display!
The Gravesham Military Modelling Society - I'm sure that their modelling gets better every time!
To the Patrons, Officers and members of the Anglo-Zulu War Research Society, who assisted in manning the Society's display - my sincere thanks.
At the risk of this becoming an Oscar speech - to well done to all the others who took place - including that bloke with the glasses, who was selling the mousemats & mugs!
To the Reverend Edward Wright, Rector of St. Helen's Church, Cliffe, I reserve my highest praise - his service left no-one unmoved. His actions & words were indeed a true act of reconciliation. With the help of Edward's Church family, the Gravesend Salvation Army Band, not forgetting the vocal tribute from Edna & her daughter it made a truly wonderful service.
To those of you who stayed away from the event, for whatever reason, you don't know what you missed.

Alex | 14th October 2002 | John Young Hello Alex,
I think that's a question best posed to Bob Driver - but think he'll need a few days to recover from this one.
I'll mention it to him, if so the event will I'm sure be advertised on this website.

I agree that the event was well worth the time. The appearance of the Zulu descendents and Kenneth Griffith's presence, as well as the displays by the Die Hards, made it a very enjoyable week-end.
