Dear John,

The AZWRS is run by John Young. email
[email protected]

There is also the AZWHS which appears to have a much larger following and regular journal run by Adiran Greaves email [email protected]

There is also the Friends of the RRW Museums - [email protected] but this is not specifically AZW.

As they say you make your choice and pay your money.

John,
The Anglo Zulu War Researech Society membership fee is 12.50 per year for UK members. I'm not sure how much it is for overseas members.
It is well worth the joining fee.
James.

All,
I am of course a member or both the AZW Historical and Research Societies. Both excellent and run by very nice blokes who I know. Long may they continue. Vive la difference. (So long as we agree on basics).

Dear All,

Now I know this will please some of you out there, but with effect from 22nd January, 2003, the Anglo-Zulu War Research Society will cease to exist!

But before you 'hang out your brighest colours', we are merely changing our name to avoid any further confusion with any limited company with a similar name.

As to Major Everett's comment above with regard to 'a much larger following', how would Major Everett know that? He is not, nor has he ever been a member of the Anglo-Zulu War Research Society!

The three previous Curators at Brecon were, yet he has never joined the A.-Z.W.R.S., nor to my own knowledge, has he permitted the display of membership forms for the society since the start of his tenure of office. Is the Anglo Zulu War Historical Society equally treated at Brecon?

The Anglo-Zulu War Research Society is run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. We seek no financial gain from our activities. We merely attempt to further and share knowledge of this ever-fascinating military campaign for the common good.

John Young,
Chairman,
Anglo-Zulu War Research Society.

John,
You had me worried there for a moment, when I started to read your first paragraph!!!
I am also a member of both Societies but I must say that I prefer, and enjoy, the friendly approach of the AZWRS. The Society has been extremely helpfull in my experience and I would like to thank the members concerned for their help and expertise since I became a member. Thanks especially to John Young and Peter Renny. Long may the Society continue under what ever name is chosen!
Thanks again,

Dewi Evans.

Dear John,
You appear to have a different point of view to me. Clearly it would be sensible if you would discuss it with me direct. The museum is and always has been available to help anyone and any society interested in the AZW and other conflicts involving the 24th Regiment and we answer some 15K enquiries a year. If you wish to promote your society under its new name as you clearly wish to do then we shall be naturally pleased to help you. Please, please ask and don't continually bleat. It is not for me to chase you for your society application forms.

Incidentally, I shall be away from Monday visiting Gonville Bromhead's grave and other 24th sites in India.

Dear Martin,

I'm not bleating, sheep do that, and I for one am no sheep! That may be what my problem is!

Yes, I do have a different point of view to yourself. My view is somewhat clouded by having seen the Anglo-Zulu War Research Society excluded, as a society, from events which the Museum has conducted appertaining to the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, I could cite the details but I'm sure you will recall those events to which I refer.

I note and welcome your invitation to help to promote the society under our new name at the Museum. Perhaps 2003 might see the society returning 'home' to Brecon, who knows?

John Young,
Chairman,
Anglo-Zulu War Research Society.

Dear John,

As a UK registered museum, I have to welcome anyone, all are included, they do not need an formal invitation (perhaps this is what you are seeking) - but look on 'events' on www.rrw.org - all details of forthcoming events are set out there - why not come to the Rorke's Drift service in Brecon Cathedral on Sunday 19 January? Also the summer fair on 6/7 July at Llanwrtyd Wells? Life is too busy to send personal invitations out to everyone. I hope you understand.

If you wish to hold a gathering in Brecon, then contact us.

Happy New Year

John,
what's the name to be? Who do I make cheques payable to for our membership renewal?

Alan,

For the present time make the cheques payable to the Anglo-Zulu War Research Society.

I will make the official announcement on 22nd January, 2003, as to the society's new name.

John Young,
A.-Z.W.R.S.
