According to R W F Droogleever's book 'The Road to Isandlwana' Durnford's horse was called 'Chieftain'. Wether he had another horse by the name of 'Cherokee' I dont know.
Chieftain was a survivor if the battle he was ridden by Durnford's servant (also a survivor) to the Colensos. Agnes Nell's sister, looked after him until he died in 1883.
Who Durnford's servant was I dont know.

| 30th December 2002 | Glenn Sorry! It was Cheiftain that I meant! Sorry for my careless error!
Glenn | 30th December 2002 | AB Try Durnford & Colenso's book on Col Durnford. It might have a reference to his horse & it's colour. | 30th December 2002 | John S Radburn Glenn
Chieftain was a grey Basuto pony.
