Date | Original Topic | 24th March 2003 | Bromhead By Ann Durbridge My Great Great Grandfather Private Patrick Brennan served with the 1/24reg during the Zulu War, I note on his military discharge papers the signature of the captain appeared to be A. G Bromhead, I could be misreading it, so does anyone know if Captain Bromhead had a Christian name begining with A and my other questian is would this indicate that my Brennan was involved at Rourkes drift? | Date | Replies | 24th March 2003 | Martin Everett Dear Ann,
According to my records I can confirm that 25B/10 Pte Patrick Brennan was in 1/24th. It is ilkely that he was with B (Fort Harrison), or D (Helpmakaar) or G Company (Helpmakaar) and not involved in Isandhlwana (22 January 1879) or Rorke's Drift (22/23 January 1879). All the defenders of Rorke's Drift has been thoroughly researched and Brennan's name does not appear on any account. The signature could be that of Capt (brevet Major) Charles James BROMHEAD who commanded at Dundee. He was an elder borther of Gonville Bromhead VC.
I trust this helps | 24th March 2003 | Edward Garcia Ann,
A copy of Gonville Bromheads signature from my collection appears is his section of this website. You can use this to compare with that which appears on your Great Great Grandfathers discharge papers. It may help a bit.
