He was drowned in the Buffalo river on 22 Oct 1884, presumably while passing through the area. Army Records in their wisdom destroyed the papers of men who died in service (no pension to pay!). So there is unlikely to be any records in the Public Record Office at Kew - expect that his name might be on casualty list - but no personal details. At starting point could be the regimental museum:
The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, The Castle, Edinburgh EH1 2YT and possibly try the 1871 & 1881 Census if he was in the UK. |
