Dear Marilyn,
You don't give your GGrandfather's name or which regiment he served with. If you know his date of birth then he would have normally joined the army at about age 18 years. Very few soldiers served in the army for more than 20 years. So there is unlikely to be a link between the 2nd Boer War and the Zulu War as they are 20 years apart. Surviving soldiers documents are held at the National archives at Kew www.pro.gov.uk in file reference WO97. You would need to visit Kew as staff there will NOT do the research for you. You can always try the 1881, 1891 and 1901 census for further information. If your GGrandfather is NOT listed then it was possible he was aboard with the army. The 1901 census is now online - www.pro.gov.uk

I trust this helps
