I've seen a number of references to documents in the PRO in some of the topics here. I've not had a lot of success in interrogating the PRO web site to find these. Can someone please point me to where in the PRO catalogue documents relating to the Zulu War are. I'd especially like to find the record of Lord Chelmsfords court of enquiry into Isandhlwana.

Dear Fred,
I assume you know that you have to visit Kew to view any document; none are available on-line. I think the documents relating to the Zulu campaign are in WO32, but as I am at home I could be wrong. Ask [email protected]

Dear Fred,
I forgot - there is a book - someone has trawled through the papers already - try Steven Hopkins who specialises in AWZ books - [email protected] To save a trip to the PRO.
I trust this helps

Many thanks for the info. I've e-mailed Steven Hopkins, at the address you supplied, for further details.

Yes I knew that I would have to visit Kew but I was having trouble identifying the relevant references from the on-line catalogue. I can find proceeds from 1899 onwards but not 1879. I wanted to get the PRO to confirm they had the info I was after. As mentioned, the record of the court of enquiry would be most interesting.

Fred or Martin,
Is there a copy of the Chelmsford Enquiry online?
It would be interesting, if so. Thanks
