Date | Original Topic | 25th February 2001 | Moody Blues By Frank Muscal Reading a book on Rorke's Drift has Sikhali's
(or Zikhali in another book)Horse being led
by Lt. Vause. Others have leader as Lt. Henderson.
After they bolted and NNC followed, it mentions
that a Sgt. Duncan Moody stayed behind and
fought in battle - can't find him on roll call.
Moody and Vause are names that are new to me. | Date | Replies | 26th February 2001 | John Young Richard Wyatt Vause served in No.3 Troop, Sikali's Horse, which acted as Durnford's baggage guard.
I met with Vause's family back in the early 1990's, Vause to my, and their knowledge did not go through Rorke's Drift, rather he rode on to Helpmekaar.
As to Moodie, he served with the Newcastle Mounted Rifles, and escaped Isandlwana. I'll check my files for any statement he may have left. | 26th February 2001 | John Young Frank,
Just to clarify thing's Zikhali is the correct spelling, Sikali was the contemporary spelling.
